What’s with the metal strips?
Modern fencing is scored electronically to reduce uncertainty about touches scored. Badger Fencing Club offers electronic scoring during open bouting sessions, so you may see fencers using this equipment while you’re at the club. The metal strips prevent a hit to the floor from registering on the scoring machine.

Do I need to buy my own equipment?
No! BFC provides equipment for all beginner and intermediate students to use. Most fencers will eventually begin to acquire their own gear as they get more familiar with the sport.
